Audience Reviews

I am an avid theater goer and this has to be one of the best, if not THE best, musical I have ever seen, and all the people I went with agree. Just one word for it: "Perfect." Great story, really beautifully done, great sets, costumes, music, acting and use of media to bring in the Chaplin movies in a creative tasteful way. It's what musical theater is all about and rarely seems to be any more. You will laugh and you will cry. Go see it you wont be sorry! Oh yes and it's great for everyone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not miss this fantastic musical! If you can only see one musical when in NY, see this one!

—Roxo, Dec. 10, 2012, Trip Advisor Reviewer, Buenos Aires

Chaplin's depth of character was amazingly portrayed by Rob McClure. The weaving of story and song, past and present, was seamless. Even the visual imagery on stage of a black and white movie, with a costume color palate of grey on grey, and the use of lighting to portray scratches to the film negatives was the perfect blend of reality and history. It is a must see.

If you’re thinking of catching CHAPLIN the musical, think no further. Buy the tickets. It's worth it!

WOW! Was that Chaplin or a double?? Rob McClure was awesome as Chaplin—he had the walk Chaplin was famous for, down to the tiniest detail! The play was funny, very sad and opened my eyes to Chaplin's tough childhood and his genius...to say most will love it is an understatement. You won't forget it anytime soon. Go see it!

We could not have picked a better show. Little "Charlie" stole the show for me. So nice to learn about someone's life in such a way. Blown away and highly highly recommend it.

This is what Broadway is all about!

Saw the show recently and loved it! Great music and a wonderful performance by Rob McClure. My group was very pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable the show was for all of us! None of us were familiar with Chaplin's life story and we all found it fascinating.

What a great surprise...this was a marvelous show. In fact one of our best nights on Broadway ever...we were truly entertained. Rob McClure is genius for this part and the cast was really first class...great singing, dancing...even roller skating. We were both laughing and crying thru the whole show...and the whole audience was into it just as we were...at the end they gave it (especially McClure) a standing ovation. This is one show we would definitely see again.

What A Broadway Musical Should Be: CHAPLIN was very creative and dazzling. It reminded me of so many of the musicals of the past. Entertaining and captivating with some memorable music. This will be a classic! I would see this show again and I am sure I would enjoy it just as much as the first time. It is a don't-miss treat.

Touching and Inspiring: I bought tickets to see this show on a whim and loved it! There were many touching moments between young Charlie Chaplin and his Mother that brought me to tears. This show has some incredible talent and very polished choreography with nice lifts, impressive turns and smooth transitions. It was very inspiring and well worth watching. The singing talent of gossip columnist, Hedda Hopper, played by Jenn Colella blew me away.

Don’t Miss This One: Knowing nothing about this musical, but being intrigued by the synopsis, we bought tickets hoping for the best. What we found was one of our most pleasurable theater experiences we've ever had. Rob McClure is outstanding as Charlie Chaplin and, as the story of his life unfolds, it draws you in and each scene unveils a new part of the story that we weren't all that familiar with. Branch out, try something new and see this musical which I hope will be on Broadway for a long time!

Not to be missed: I thought Rob McClure was wonderful. What I really loved was I got to learn a lot more about Charlie Chaplin. Everyone of all ages would love this!

In a rough time of movie-turned-musicals and jukebox scores, CHAPLIN emerges as a truly original and outstanding piece of theatre. I've seen it six times and counting! Needless to say, CHAPLIN is my favourite show currently running on Broadway; it is certainly not one to miss!

—Bernadette B., Sept. 27, 2012, New York Times Reader, NYC

This show has it all—music, dance, performance, and the history of the Little Tramp all rolled into one. My wife and I truly enjoyed this evening of fine entertainment! Go see for yourself—you will not be disappointed.

We loved the show last night! The perfect way to spend our 15th wedding anniversary, especially since one of the first things we ever talked about was our love for Chaplin...we even had a Chaplin impersonator at our wedding reception. As two fans who are also raising young Chaplin fans, we saw the attention to detail. It's as if Rob McClure's body was invaded by the spirit and soul of Charlie Chaplin. Bravo to everyone, I see Tony Awards® for the cast, the music, the effects, the make up, the costumes, direction, all of it! WOW!

—Heidi G.

I am so glad that quality, expressive theater like this can find it's way to Broadway amid all the spectacle with half CHAPLIN's heart.

—Howard W.
